A dangerous escape of carbon monoxide occurred in a go-kart accident in the German city of Jena on Saturday. More than 30 people were injured.
According to a police spokesperson, two go-karts collided, leaving one person with minor injuries. Dozens of people then complained of breathing problems and headaches. In the end, 38 people were classified as slightly injured by the emergency doctor, the police announced on Sunday evening.
Increased CO concentration in Karthalle
The injured included five teenagers and eleven children. Emergency services found an increased concentration of carbon monoxide in the hall, for which there was initially no explanation. The investigation is expected to continue on Monday. The go-kart track will remain closed until then, according to a police spokesperson. The “Ostthüringer Zeitung” had previously reported on the incident.
Carbon monoxide is a powerful respiratory poison
