Since there are no names on the new letterbox in a residential complex in Enns in Upper Austria, the deliverers could not correctly identify the letters. The residents simply threw the letters, which were not theirs, in the household waste.
The excitement in a residential complex in Enns was high at the beginning of the week. There, numerous important mail items were found in a container for residual waste. Some people assumed that the postman in charge had simply thrown the documents away. A reader then turned to the “Krone” because he feared that several important letters such as invoices or reminders had already ended up in the trash. An inquiry at the post office, however, yielded an answer that was as surprising as it was sad.
Mailboxes no longer labelled
“The mailboxes at the affected address – they are owned by the property management – have recently been refreshed and are no longer labeled. Since the recipients have stopped posting their door numbers and names, based on the scant information, our delivery driver has to try to get the letters as good as possible. possible,” explains Post spokesman Markus Leitgeb.
“Postman with decades of experience”
And he also has an explanation why the mail ended up in the dumpster. “Here, the wrong recipients must have simply thrown away other people’s letters,” Leitgeb is sure. The company puts its hand in the fire for the postman.
“We spoke to the regular delivery person, a postman with decades of experience,” says Leitgeb. He also appeals to the residents: “Make sure that the mailboxes are always correct, up-to-date and clearly labeled with door numbers and ideally also with names.”
“I don’t get regular mail”
For Alois K. (62), who contacted the “Krone”, this is understandable: “People move in here and then leave very quickly. I am the only one who has lived here for 15 years and I also have a name on my mailbox. I still get the mail, but not regularly.”
