Readers of “Krone” know the story: on February 20, the white wallaby “Chepi” escaped from its enclosure in Deutsch Bieling, a district of the municipality of Heiligenbrunn, in the district of Güssing. Since then, the unusual resident of the kangaroo family has kept pet lovers around owner Patrick P. and his partner Kathrin on their toes.
“Chepi” the free spirit
“Chepi” kept popping up in the woods not far from the settlement. But all attempts to catch the escapee failed. As soon as someone got too close to him, he jumped away in a flash. When “Chepi” crouched next to a large live trap – just 500 meters from the house – on Wednesday night, the owner hoped to bring the wallaby back into the enclosure the next day after work.
