After the tragic death of a child in a swimming accident in Burgenland, the father is under investigation for negligent homicide. It is currently unclear whether the girl jumped into the wild water pool or fell into it.
As reported, the accident happened last Saturday in the Sonnentherme in Lutzmannsburg. At around 12:45 a.m., a bather at the pool noticed a child floating motionless in the water, according to police. The witness promptly responded and pulled the girl out of the pool.
girl died
A doctor who visited the thermal baths immediately rushed to the rescue and carried out resuscitation measures. Despite a rescue chain that quickly got under way, the five-year-old didn’t stand a chance. The doctors of the Vienna-Donaustadt clinic lost the battle to save little Dunija.
The child must have drowned. A confirmation of the unofficial cause of death is expected in official circles from the ordered autopsy.
Murder by negligence?
The focus of the surveys is the father from Vienna. Was Dunija’s father inattentive and in breach of his duty of care? That is the question researchers ask themselves. The suspicion of wrongful death is being investigated by order of the Eisenstadt public prosecutor’s office.
Just 30 minutes guest
The father had only been in the thermal baths with his daughter for half an hour when the accident happened. The child had fallen into the watershed in an unnoticed moment.
It must also be ascertained whether Dunija jumped, as initially reported, or whether the five-year-old fell into the water. According to current information, the girl would have played on a slide shortly before the bathing accident.
Videos are analyzed
According to the state police, an exact reconstruction of the family drama should only be possible after viewing the video recordings that the thermal management has handed over to the authorities. “The footage must be examined and evaluated,” said Monday afternoon in Eisenstadt.
