where do children go – Suspicion of cheating in school enrollments

Date:

In Schattendorf in Burgenland, children are repeatedly observed marching across the border with school bags. But where are they going?

Unusual sightings have been made in Schattendorf since construction work for the installation of the bollards and a pedestrian area near the border is underway and the route has been closed to traffic. Passers-by always notice how people cross the border on foot – and not only that: also in the morning hours, children with school bags, apparently coming from the Hungarian side, are regularly seen marching towards the municipality. Some people in the village are now wondering where these children go and where they attend classes. Because only those who have a place to stay here can go to school.

thing is being investigated
The case also concerns Mayor Thomas Hoffmann. “We will take a closer look at this in the context of the registration law,” he announces. If something does not comply with the law, appropriate measures are taken.

Ongoing requests from Hungarian parents
According to Petra Leitgeb, head of primary and secondary school in Schattendorf, there are always questions from Hungarian parents who want to send their children to classes in Austria. She then explains to them that this can only be done with an associated residence.

rented property?
The public has learned that Hungarians use a trick to avoid this. According to this, old, uninhabited buildings are rented out and given as a home to let the children go to school here. Whether anything is going on remains to be seen.
