For reasons that have not yet been clarified, a container caught fire on Tuesday around 3 p.m. on a site in the Zillingtal, in the Eisenstadt region. The flames quickly spread to the house and an adjacent building. The rescue and fire brigades of Zillingtal, Neufeld, Pöttsching, Steinbrunn and Eisenstadt were on duty with more than 40 men until the evening hours and were finally able to contain the fire. The management was also on site with fire investigators. There was one death to regret.
Two explosions
A neighbor had heard a loud bang in the afternoon, followed by cries for help. Shortly afterwards, the second explosion followed. The homeowner was not present at the time, the man in need of care went for a walk outside the building with his caregiver.
The daughter is said to have visited her parents’ house, residents want to have seen her in the garden in the early afternoon with a jerry can of petrol near the container, in which a body was eventually found. “Unfortunately, we could no longer help the woman,” says fire service spokesman Günter Prünner. There should have been no other casualties or injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
