Electricity generation from renewable energy sources in the Basque Country accounts for 11.2% of the total

Last year, wind energy production in the CAV increased by 7.1% compared to 2011, while hydraulic energy decreased by 25.7%.

The Basque Autonomous Community recorded last year 1051 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electrical production of origin renewablewhich represents 11.2% of the total territory, as reported today by the group Red Eléctrica in its annual report.

Similarly, last year wind power production in Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa increased by 7.1% compared to 2011 and hydropower production decreased by 25.7%, mainly due to the fact that 2022 was very dry. Total Basque energy generation increased by 37.4% to 9,375 GWh last year.

Electricity demand in the Basque Country amounted to 15,232 GWh in 2022, 4% less than in the previous year, representing 6.1% of recorded consumption in Spain.
