Trains, flights are canceled – strike in Germany also hits Tyrol en masse

Date:

Nothing works anymore, it is said on public transport in Germany on Monday. It has been on strike since midnight. This also affects Tyrol: the drivers must be prepared for malfunctions and delays. Air traffic is also affected. Traffic congestion on the roads is expected.

The mega strike hit Tyrol enormously, especially the rail connections. Trains cannot go through Deutsches Eck. “A shuttle service between Salzburg and Wörgl has been set up every two hours,” says the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). Travel time is extended by up to three hours.

Track replacement, diversions and outages
The Westbahn has also set up a track replacement service – but with restrictions. Local transport is also affected by the strike: in the direction of Mittenwald, it only runs as far as Scharnitz. Rail replacement buses are used for part of the connections. Night trains are diverted or are canceled completely or partially.

According to Bahn, the aftermath will still be felt on Tuesday. ÖBB strongly recommends that you request up-to-date information through the various channels (Scotty, oebb.at or telephone customer service at 05-1717-0).

Flights to Frankfurt have been canceled and traffic jams are feared
Innsbruck airport is also affected. All three flight connections between Innsbruck and Frankfurt will expire before Monday. As a result of the strike, motorists’ clubs also expect roadblocks. Dagmar Schröckenfuchs of the ÖAMTC sees a “traffic hotspot” in the Große Deutsches Eck between Kufstein and Salzburg.

The effects are likely to be felt on the Inntalautobahn and other connections close to the border. The situation could be exacerbated by snowfall, which is forecast for Monday and should reach into the valleys.
