Processes worked – commuters were prepared for the chaos of the strike

Date:

Despite warning strikes in Germany, “early traffic” at Innsbruck’s main train station continued almost as usual on Monday. According to ÖBB, the processes went smoothly. At Salzburg’s main station, however, it was much quieter than usual on Monday morning and in the morning. The feared chaos that the strike caused in Germany initially failed to materialise.

“Public transport commuters should have been well prepared, the train replacement service is well received,” said Salzburg ÖBB spokesman Klaus Baumgartner. “We also assume that people have canceled one trip or the other.” The federal railways have made commuter buses available to Freilassing in Bavaria, for travelers to Tyrol there are replacement buses to Wörgl or a diversion via Zell am See.

Up to 3 hours longer on the road
However, the processes went smoothly and it was “relatively quiet” so far, ÖBB press spokesman for Tyrol and Vorarlberg Christoph Gasser-Mair stressed to the APA. “Since 07:00, we have been running commuter trains every two hours via Zell am See and buses every hour via Deutsches Eck,” he explains. The corresponding changes would “work well”. However, passengers definitely had to expect “longer travel times” – up to three hours.

The numerous passengers in Innsbruck were welcomed at the station entrance with travel information on the boards. It stated that train services to, from and via Germany were suspended. In Innsbruck around 08:00 this mainly affected the Railjet to Vienna Airport.

This long-distance connection usually runs from Vorarlberg via Tyrol to the Deutsches Eck to Salzburg, Linz and the federal capital. This time, however, the destination was Kufstein instead of Vienna. There is a “train cancellation between Kufstein and Salzburg Hauptbahnhof”, it read. The train also arrived late from Vorarlberg in the Tyrolean capital.

Flights to Frankfurt cancelled
Innsbruck Airport is not affected by the warning strikes. Three “rotations” to Frankfurt, i.e. departures and arrivals, will be affected on Monday, airport spokesman Patrick Dierich said. “At Salzburg Airport, the canceled flight connections to and from Germany were more than compensated by alternative flights,” said airport spokesman Alexander Klaus. In total, four flights to Frankfurt and one flight to and from Cologne have been canceled today. There was a regular outward flight to Hamburg, but the machine returned without passengers.
