Patient lawyer knows: – When there is compensation after delayed operations

Date:

Damages after delayed operations may soon be taken to court. And these days, unfortunately, they happen again more often.

Top local doctors reported in the “Krone” interview that surgeries in clinics are currently being postponed due to lack of staff. “The problem: the later treatment not only makes healing more difficult. The patients suffer permanent damage such as limited mobility,” says an emergency surgeon.

Damage up to six figures
But should patients and accident victims just accept that? “No,” says Vienna’s patient advocate Gerhard Jelinek. “We are not talking about a medical error. But it is a disadvantage in the organization of care. This can lead to damage. If patients contact us with these concerns, we will certainly try to advise and represent them,” advises patient advocate Jelinek. Incidentally, the range for compensation varies from 1000 euros to six-figure amounts – depending on the duration of the damage, age or pain a patient has to suffer.

Contact person for doctors and nurses
Jelinek currently sees no increase in complaints: “But I only took over the position six months ago.” By the way: not only patients, but also doctors and nurses can turn to the patient advocate in case of complaints. Ph. Stewart
