A burst tire with consequences: A truck caught fire on the Semmering highway near Leoben, the vehicle and the load went up in flames.
On Monday afternoon, the S6 towards Klagenfurt was closed for hours near Leoben. Reason: A truck burned just before the Maßenbergtunnel, the vehicle was heavily damaged, as well as the load and a noise barrier.
Broken tires as the cause
A burst tire may have caused the misery. Heat developed near the ashes, resulting in a fire. The 55-year-old driver initially tried to extinguish the fire himself. At around 1:40 p.m., he alerted the emergency services.
The volunteer fire brigades in Leoben-Stadt, Leoben-Göß and Niklasdorf left, police officers from the Gleinalm highway police and Asfinag employees were also on site. Traffic had to be diverted and the roadblock could not be lifted until evening.
