Algeria’s government has warned Spain that it will cut gas supplies to Spain if some of what it sends to the country is diverted to another destination, citing Morocco. The Algerian warning has come after the announcement by the government of Spain to provide assistance to Morocco in energy issues.
In a statement, Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab made it clear that if any part of the natural gas sent by Algeria to Spain has a “destination not foreseen in the contracts”, it will be considered “a violation of contractual obligations and could therefore lead to the termination of the contract linking Sonatrach to its Spanish customers”.
The warning comes after Ecological Transition Minister Teresa Ribera reported that Spain will continue to allow reverse flow of the Maghreb Europe Gas Pipeline (GME) as Algeria has supplied the peninsula through Morocco until last November. . it went to its closure.
Algeria severed diplomatic relations with Morocco last August and closed the Maghreb Europe Gas Pipeline (GME) in November.
From the department headed by Teresa Ribera, they confirmed that Algeria has been informed of this decision, which they have been talking about “in recent months”, stressing that “the gas acquired by Morocco will in no case come from Algeria ” .
