A paraglider pilot (68) was very lucky on Friday afternoon in an accident in Obertilliach in East Tyrol. The man ran into turbulence at an altitude of 300 meters. It is thanks to trees that he was not injured in the incident.
Around noon, the 68-year-old started under the mountain station in Obertilliach. After a while, however, he encountered air turbulence and the paraglider collapsed. At that time, the man was only 300 meters above the ground.
The pilot deployed the rescue parachute and attempted to land. Not an easy task, as he lost height quickly. However, the impact on the ground was prevented by trees. The paraglider was caught and the pilot was unharmed at an altitude of 15 meters.
The German could not free himself. He then called 911 on his cell phone. Mountain rescuers and a police officer from the Alps freed the unharmed man from his plight.
