“The dragon’s head started glowing, there were flames and at first I thought they had new effects,” Disneyland visitor Elaine Gilmer told ABC News. But when the body of the 13-foot-tall figure suddenly started to burn, Gilmer and her daughter realized something was wrong. The show was canceled and visitors were led away from the stage. Visitors in other parts of the park also had to be evacuated due to the heavy smoke development.
Firefighters from the Anaheim Fire Department rushed in to put out Maleficent. No injuries were reported, a fire service spokesman said. Why the dragon suddenly caught fire is unclear.
