Some of the remaining corona rules will end on May 1: masks are only mandatory throughout Austria until April 30 in vulnerable areas such as hospitals, old people’s and nursing homes and in doctors’ surgeries. At the end of June, the obligation to report illness with Covid-19 will also be a thing of the past.
The government already decided on February 1 in the Council of Ministers on the timetable for the end of the Corona measures.
“The pandemic is going, the virus is staying and we will be able to deal with it,” said Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) at the time. The timetable provides for a gradual phasing out of the regulations by the summer. From June 30, “normal operation” should regain the upper hand.
On May 1, the face mask obligation will decrease in the last areas. Before the summer holidays – on July 1 – SARS-CoV-2 is no longer a notifiable disease. The traffic restrictions that are still in force for people who have tested positive will therefore be cancelled. Although infected people do not currently have to be quarantined, they are required to wear an FFP2 mask indoors and outdoors when in close contact with other people.
Exemption for risk groups expires, vaccination centers are dismantled
According to the project, vaccinations, tests and the provision of corona medication must remain free. There should only be free tests to clarify whether patients with symptoms need medication. The wastewater monitoring is supplemented with other pathogens. The vaccination centers are being dismantled. The so-called risk group exemption will also be cancelled.
