Kremlin worried? – Russia cancels famous “tank biathlon”.

Date:

Time and time again, sports or competitions raise eyebrows for their absurdity. Like the Russians, for example, with their famous tank biathlon, which serves many clichés about the largest country in the world in terms of surface area. Now the bang: Moscow has canceled the international army games that are normally held annually. Experts eagerly speculate about the reasons.

Last year, Russia hosted the games, also known as the “Olympic War Games” or, after a popular discipline, “tank biathlon”. By the way, the “tank biathlon” was invented by the Russian Ministry of Defense, which wanted more sporting competition for military training.

As part of the discipline, tanks must cover approximately 20 kilometers at a rapid pace, overcome obstacles and achieve various practice objectives. In 2015, the unique competition was held for the first time. The final always takes place in Alabino, southwest of the Russian capital Moscow. In addition to Russia, China, Venezuela, Belarus and Kazakhstan also participated last year.

Like any other sport, a lot can go wrong in this competition. For example, you can skid and roll over:

Or drive over “a few” obstacles:

reasons for cancellation
The Defense Ministry intelligence report in London on Friday said Russia likely canceled the games because it feared the event would seem inappropriate in wartime. However, what speaks against this theory is that the competition was held last year – also during wartime.

Another realistic possibility is that the Kremlin fears that it will not be able to dominate the competition as usual because of the losses in the offensive war against Ukraine. This is probably the more plausible explanation.

After all, in the event of a defeat in the biathlon, the country would probably not give the best image to its people and raise even more doubts whether it could really “beat” Ukraine. Coupled with a few mishaps, like in the videos above, the fiasco would probably be perfect.
