Economic cooperation in the Black Sea region should be the focus of the PABSEC summit in Turkey, but here too the war of aggression is affecting Ukraine. Fists even flew between a Ukrainian and a Russian representative.
The violent clashes were captured on video and immediately spread on social media. Two contributions show how Russian delegates feel provoked by the unfurled Ukrainian flag.
For example, a Ukrainian MP held up her flag during a speech by a Russian representative – a scuffle ensued, after which the Turkish hosts arranged for the flag to be removed.
Furiously grabs the flag
But that’s not all: in another scene, the secretary of the Russian delegation snatches the flag from Ukrainian MP Pavel Marikovsky – and again there was a direct argument. The Ukrainian then charged at him and fought back the piece of cloth after a few punches.
Such images give no hope of a speedy relief of the crisis at the diplomatic level. Even outside the battlefield, no dialogue seems possible at the moment. However, especially for Turkey, such images are another setback – since the beginning of the Russian aggression, they wanted to act as a mediator and try to calm them down at least a little by allowing both warring parties to participate in conferences.
