A spectacular tornado formation over Lower Austria was observed on Saturday by “Krone” reader reporter Philipp M. above Ravelsbach. He sent us the impressive photos of this natural spectacle.
The tornado formed over the market town of Ravelsbach in Lower Austria (population about 1,600, Hollabrunn district).
“At first I wanted to give a warning to the ZAMG, but I couldn’t get there,” reader reporter Philipp M. told “Krone”.
A tornado was not sighted until May 1 in the 70-strong village of Oberfladnitz in the Horn district. The tornado had moved from the fields into the small cadastral community, causing significant property damage. After two minutes the ghost was over. No one was injured.
This creates a tornado
When warm, moist air rises and meets dry, cold air, storm clouds form.
When crosswinds cause the ascending air to spin, it creates a swirling cloud tube. As soon as this column of air hits the earth, it is called a tornado.
