A couple in Thailand has been sentenced to a total of 12,640 years in prison for fraud. Since both confessed, according to the criminal court, the sentence was reduced to 5,056 years per person.
According to the Bangkok Post, from March to October 2019, the defendants asked people on Facebook to invest in an alleged high-yield savings plan.
More than 2500 casualties
More than 2,500 people participated and transferred money – worth a total of 1.3 billion Thai baht (35 million euros), it said. The suspects allegedly pocketed the money.
Couple gets a maximum of 20 years in prison
The high prison sentences can be explained by the many charges and the fact that prison sentences can be accumulated in Thailand. Both have a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison under the law.
