Passengers stranded – Eight euros for unwanted ‘night camping’ in the train

Date:

A technical defect forced a Railjet to an involuntary stop on Tuesday night. Passengers had to wait inside for hours. Shortly before the evacuation, the auxiliary locomotive continued towards St. Pölten station.

Suddenly nothing worked. A Railjet remained on the public road near Ratzersdorf on Tuesday night. A technical defect forced the driver to an unplanned stop. About 200 people were trapped for hours. With no way to escape. Particularly bitter: the train was only a few minutes away from the next platform.

“We Just Quit”
“We just stopped. Then it was announced that the return journey would be delayed by about ten minutes,” describes Christine W. from the St. Pölten region. It ended up being almost three hours.

Like the passionate train driver, a school class was on their way home from a visit to the theater in Vienna. Inside, at least among the conductors, there was hectic activity. Emergency lighting, no air conditioning and ready for fire evacuation. But then nothing happened.

Small compensation
“Due to a technical malfunction, the Railjet stopped on the western route at the Wagram junction on Tuesday night,” says ÖBB. But the relief locomotive arrived before the scheduled evacuation and the journey continued. The victims now each receive eight euros in compensation.
