“War situation” – rocket hail, but 40,000 concert guests in Tel Aviv

Date:

Fighting between militant Palestinians and the Israeli army continues incessantly. “We are in a war situation,” an army spokesman said Thursday. In the coastal metropolis of Tel Aviv, tens of thousands of music fans defied the threat and attended a gigantic open-air concert – ‘framed’ by the ‘Iron Dome’ missile defense system.

According to Palestinian sources, 30 people, including six children, have been killed since the start of the Israeli military offensive. According to the Israeli Air Force, it has attacked more than 150 targets in the Gaza Strip in recent days, killing several senior members of the Islamic Jihad terror organization.

800 rockets fired from the Gaza Strip
According to Israeli sources, militant Palestinians fired more than 800 rockets and mortar shells at Israel, 620 of which crossed the border. According to rescuers, a rocket hit a residential building in the Israeli town of Rehovot, killing one person and injuring seven others. Sirens have also been heard several times in the Tel Aviv area in recent days.

40,000 Visitors at Open Air: Missile Alert Instructions
There, an open-air concert by musician Aviv Geffen, which attracted some 40,000 visitors on Thursday evening despite missile threats, caused displeasure. According to media reports, fans were instructed to sit on the ground and shield their heads in the event of a missile alert. They were asked not to flee so as not to risk mass panic. The organizers were criticized for saying the event was “irresponsible”.

“Good luck with your intifada”
Many visitors, on the other hand, saw the massive turnout at the concert as a reaction of resistance. Musician Yoni Leviatan, for example, tweeted: “If your most feared weapons do nothing more than serve as a great fireworks backdrop for a concert: good luck with your intifada.” The Palestinians call their large-scale uprisings intifada.

Other Twitter videos also show how the “Iron Dome” defense system provides the “backdrop” for the big event:

Missile threats and targeted assassinations
However, there is little hope of any easing in the near future: Islamic Jihad has declared its willingness to expand its attacks “regardless of how long the battle lasts and whatever the cost to us”. In a propaganda video, the group showed members preparing missiles and threatening to “drown Israel with missiles.”

According to Egyptian sources, ceasefire talks came to nothing. According to Jihad, the talks failed because Israel refused to end targeted killings.
