The Basque government convenes a meeting to study the effects of the drought on livestock farms

The Table of Agriculture and Climate Change will diagnose the moment this Friday and develop a series of initiatives to reduce the problems caused by the lack of water.

The Basque Government convened this Friday the Table of Agriculture and Climate Change to analyze with the rest of the institutions and the primary sector the situation of agricultural and livestock farmscaused by the rise in commodity prices and exacerbated by the lack of water in recent months.

On the occasion of the celebration of San Isidro, the Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment, Arantxa Tapiavisited this Monday, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Policy, Bittor Orozthe cattle ranch Mugarrieta de Hondarribia.

Among other things, they have addressed the drought of recent months, which “has not currently affected the whole of society, but has affected agricultural and livestock professionals”. For this reason, the Basque government convened this Friday Table of agriculture and climate change to analyze together with the rest of the institutions and with the sector the situation experienced by professionals in the field.

At the meeting, the diagnosis of the moment and a battery of initiatives contribute to reducing the problems that the lack of water can cause in the feeding of livestock and the maintenance of orchards.

During the visit, the minister wanted to make a statement in defense of the Basque agricultural and livestock model, based on the family farmingand underlined the generation relief as a “key piece of the future of the Basque country’s primary sector”.
