Father was ex-prisoner – parents killed: “nerd” (33) went crazy

Date:

The 33-year-old who killed his parents in Nickelsdorf (Burgenland) shunned the public and may have had psychological problems. The father was a former prisoner.

The day after the incomprehensible parricide and the suicide of the son (33), the municipality of Nickelsdorf in northern Burgenland is still in shock. How was it that Harald D. shot his 59-year-old mother Doris in the house and then father Robert (67) was killed with a shovel in the garden? What caused the camel to flood? One guess follows another.

lived in seclusion
According to locals, after completing HTL, Harald lived in seclusion behind the walls of the farm. He worked the fields with the tractor and brought in the harvest. “We knew he existed. But we never saw him,” says a resident who suspects that the “nerd” (33) “didn’t take his pills.” It is said that he was under psychological treatment.

How would he have fared at home? While his mother took an active part in the social life of the community, his father only appeared at community council meetings. There, the founder of the New Order Party (PNO) supported the Freedom Party.

Father convicted of Nazi reactivation
For promoting Nazi ideas, glorifying Adolf Hitler and denying Germany’s war guilt in the late 1990s, the farmer was sentenced to six months in prison in 2001 for renewed involvement in Nazi activities and violating prohibition law.

Mayor Gerhard Zapfl does not even want to participate in the speculation about how this terrible act could have happened. “We are all still here at our wits end and shocked. There were no signs,” the mayor said.

If you or a loved one is in a special psychological situation or has suicidal thoughts, please contact the telephone assistance on 142. Other crisis telephones and emergency numbers can be found HERE.
