Air defense in action – attack on Kiev with drones and cruise missiles

Date:

The Ukrainian capital Kiev was the target of a massive Russian airstrike on Tuesday morning. “The enemy launched a complex attack from several directions and at the same time – using drones, cruise missiles and probably ballistic missiles,” the Kyiv military government said.

“It was exceptional in density, a peak number of missiles in a very short time. According to initial information, the vast majority of enemy targets in the skies over Kiev have been detected and destroyed,” the army said.

Kiev mayor Vitali Klitschko announced on his Telegram account shortly before that the city’s air defenses had been deployed. For example, debris from a drone and a rocket ended up in the Darnytskyi district in the south of the capital. “Three people were injured in Solomjanskyi district,” Klitschko added.

Attacks in response to new arms shipments?
The massive Russian attacks came a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy returned from a tour that had taken him to Italy, Germany, France and Britain.

The British government promised Ukraine on Monday the timely delivery of hundreds of anti-aircraft missiles and combat drones. The new military support will be “delivered in the coming months,” London said. Britain announced last week that it would supply Ukraine with Storm Shadow cruise missiles.

In response to London’s new arms pledge to Ukraine, Moscow warned of “further destruction”. These supplies would have “no significant impact on the course” of the conflict, but would lead to “even more destruction and fighting,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
