The flat-rate service charges for a restaurant on Naschmarkt are causing a stir. Two “Krone” journalists were undercover disguised as tourists at the scene. You can see the result in the video above.
The ‘Krone’ report about a restaurant on the Naschmarkt that automatically charges a 10 percent tip in the form of a service charge caused a lot of commotion. The card will point this out to you, but if you’re not careful you could tip extra and be asked to pay twice.
The owner justifies the procedure: “Many guests give little, tourists often don’t give anything at all. But my employees live on tips. We refer to the service costs on the map. If you complain, you don’t have to pay it or you can give less.” But is that right?
Wanting to know exactly what happened, the “Krone” reporters Stefana Madjarov and Nina Coloini visited the restaurant disguised as tourists.
