In response to the indictment of President Vladimir Putin by the International Criminal Court (ICC/ICC), Russia has prepared a wanted list for its chief prosecutor. Karim Khan is under investigation for violating Russian criminal laws, Russian media reported on Friday, citing the Interior Ministry.
A statement from the ICC was not available for the time being. According to the Meduza opposition platform, detectives had already launched criminal proceedings against Khan for “knowingly and knowingly accusing an innocent person” and preparing an “attack against a representative of a foreign government” to complicate international relations.
The Hague issued an arrest warrant against Putin in March
On March 17, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Putin and Russia’s Children’s Commissioner Maria Lwova-Belowa. The legal charge is “war crimes”. Both are accused of deporting children from the occupied parts of Ukraine to Russia. Shortly afterwards, the Russian Commission of Inquiry started a criminal case against the prosecutor and the judges of the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Russia has been waging an offensive war against Ukraine since February last year.
Russian army reinforced with 117,000 volunteers
Meanwhile, the Russian military has received an influx of about 117,000 volunteers and contract soldiers since January. Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the National Security Council, announced this on Friday. “We will continue to work with them to expand the Russian armed forces with contract workers within the framework of the president’s instructions in this regard,” he said.
Exact figures on the strength and repositioning of the Russian army are difficult to obtain given the Russian offensive war against Ukraine. Russia usually recruits new soldiers twice a year, but recently thousands of young men have evaded military service by fleeing abroad.
