Spectacular battering ram coup at the gates of Vienna! With a stolen BMW, several suspects entered a large shopping center – the procedure is reminiscent of an already notorious criminal gang. The “Crown” has the details…
They used the silence of darkness to strike. First, some previously unknown persons stole a BMW in Vienna on Monday evening, a little later they sent the “cars” at full speed into entrance number 5 of Shopping City Süd (SCS) in Vösendorf (Lower Austria) – and further into the display of a jeweler .
Watches and jewels as loot, windows burst from the heat
At 03:40 the alarm went off loudly. But by that time, the perpetrators had already disposed of watches and jewelry and set fire to the “battering ram” vehicle. The first rumors that shots were heard turned out to be false. Only the windows of the shopping center were shattered by the heat.
No trace of suspects
A large contingent, from Cobra to guide dogs to helicopters, took off. Unsuccessful: There is still no trace of the suspects.
Here the BMW is being pushed out of the SCS by the fire department:
The SCS is open Monday morning. But not the relevant input. The forensic detective has cordoned off the area over a large area, the National Criminal Investigation Department is investigating. A spokesman for the SCS was unable to quantify the extent of the damage on Monday.
Parallels with Coup in clothing store Nobel
The coup bears striking similarities to a robbery that took place on April 2 in the heart of Vienna. Early in the morning, a Renault backed into the front door of Amicis, Nobel City menswear store. The stolen car was later recovered. The evaluation of video recordings at the crime scene should determine whether the cases are related.
Return of the Pink Panthers?
Behind closed doors it is said that a return of the “Pink Panther” gang is conceivable. The jewel robbers, mainly from the former Yugoslavia, stole hundreds of millions of euros in numerous coups across Europe. In 2021, two Serbs responsible for 11 raids from Kitzbühel to Vienna were sentenced to nine years in prison in Innsbruck.
