Alcohol will flow – “Tutto Gas”: Lignano prepared for a party weekend

Date:

The seaside resort of Lignano Sabbiadoro on the Adriatic Sea, which is popular with Austrians, is preparing for a tourist storm this Pentecost weekend. 80,000 visitors are expected, including an estimated 20,000 Austrians. Alcohol abuse among young holidaymakers in particular is a cause for concern.

German-speaking police officers from South Tyrol and Carinthia will actively support their colleagues on the ground, confirmed the mayor of Lignano Sabbiadoro, Laura Giorgi. “Unfortunately, over the years, the Pentecost holiday in Lignano has become an opportunity for young Austrians to exaggerate their alcohol consumption, which damages the image of the city,” the mayor stressed.

Many forbidden at Pentecost
In the seaside resort, the sale of drinks in glass bottles or cans is prohibited during the long weekend and access to the beaches is restricted at night. The police will be back with a large contingent. Sleeping outside with a tent or sleeping bag is no longer allowed. Police want strict controls to prevent vandalism against public and private property.

Everything booked
Lignano expects a larger influx of foreign holidaymakers during the Pentecost weekend than last year. Hotels and campsites are fully booked. The small town on the northern Adriatic Sea is one of the most popular seaside resorts in Italy due to its long sandy beach.
