“It’s time” – Kiev announces the start of the counter-offensive

Date:

The Ukrainian counter-offensive to further push back the Russian invaders has been in preparation for months – and awaited. Statements from Kiev now indicate that the counterattack is imminent. A “trailer” published by the head of the Ukrainian army already agrees.

It shows Ukrainian soldiers asking divine blessings for their “determined offensive” and stating the clear goal: “kill enemies”. .

The video was published this weekend on the social media channels of Ukrainian Chief of Staff Valery Zalushny. “The time has come to take back what’s ours,” it said (see below).

Ukraine “always ready”
When will that time actually come? The president’s office in Kyiv recently said the offensive has been going on for days. Oleksiy Danilov, who plays a key role in the war as secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, disagreed in the BBC interview. However, the counter-offensive will begin soon and Ukrainian forces are “ready at any moment”. He did not name a date, but said the counter-attack could take place “tomorrow, the day after tomorrow or in a week’s time”.

You have “no right to make mistakes,” Danilov warned the Ukrainian government. Because the counter-offensive is a “historic opportunity” that should not be missed. In the planning, which has been going on for months, Ukraine allowed time to train as many soldiers as possible and receive as many weapons as possible from the West. The contradictory and deliberately vague statements could also be part of the strategy and confuse the Russian military.

“intensity increases”
Mykhailo Podoliak, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, told the British Guardian that the offensive has no specific date. Instead, there is an ongoing process of reconquest. Supply lines have already been destroyed or depots behind the lines have been blown up. “The intensity is increasing, but it will take quite a long time,” explains Podoljak.

He also indicated that there would be more raids by Russian guerrillas in Russia, as recently in the Belgorod region. To this end, a unit led by a Russian neo-Nazi was equipped with American armored vehicles. Kiev denies having anything to do with it, but experts agree Ukraine is behind it.

Worst drone strike on Kyiv since war started
Meanwhile, Russian forces again attacked Kiev from the air on Sunday night (see video above). It was the worst drone strike on the Ukrainian capital since the start of the war, the Ukrainian Air Force said, citing record use of so-called Kamikaze drones manufactured in Iran. “In total, the launch of a record number of kamikaze drones was recorded: 54!” said the Ukrainian Air Force press service.

Although, according to authorities, 52 of the unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down, there were fatalities. According to the military administration, more than 40 drones were shot down over Kiev alone. It was the 14th attack since early May, military governor Serhiy Popko said on Telegram. A 41-year-old man was killed and a 35-year-old woman was injured by falling parts, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on Telegram in the morning. According to later officials, two people were killed and three others injured.
