Last year, a man from Salzburg left his bitch in his apartment for at least a week without being cared for. The 24-year-old was sentenced to three months in prison for animal cruelty by the Salzburg regional court on Tuesday.
According to a tip, the female named “Lissy” was found completely neglected on November 8, 2022 by the city authorities in a room contaminated with feces. Even without food, the pet had to stay there for more than a week.
Bitch has found a new home
The animal was eventually adopted for Christmas by a man from Salzburg. With the new owner, the bitch now experiences what she has missed for so long: long walks. The court awarded the animal shelter Pfotenhilfe in Lochen (Upper Austria), which took in “Lissy” in November 2022, 1,000 euros for the care of the dog.
Suspects do not confess
The suspect, who was addicted to alcohol, said he hired a friend to watch his dog while he was away. But the witness denied this. The sentence handed down to the 24-year-old, who had several previous convictions, was an additional sentence.
