A serious forest accident took place in the Gailtal Alps in Carinthia on Tuesday afternoon. The victim’s son was the first responder to the injured.
In a piece of forest on the Meisternock in the municipality of Paternion, a Romanian was working on Tuesday after the recent gusts of wind. Suddenly, a ten-foot tree trunk rootstock broke loose, fell over the slope and buried the 54-year-old. Colleagues, including the victim’s son, alerted the emergency services.
Use in the fog
In the fog, mountain rescuers from Villach and Spittal-Stockenboi made their way through rough terrain to the scene of the accident. The mountain rescue doctor was also called to the scene of the accident.
The RK1 team used a rope to rescue the injured man, who probably broke both thighs, and flew him to the Villach regional hospital. Seven mountain rescuers were deployed and another coordinated the operation at headquarters.
