Theodore Kaczynski, who went down in history as “Unabomber”, is dead! The former math professor, who committed a total of 16 bombings across the United States over a 17-year span, died Saturday at age 81 in a North Carolina federal prison.
Three people were killed and 23 others injured in the attacks he carried out. According to Kaczynski, he had wanted to use his terror to protest against technological progress.
Kaczynski, dubbed an “unabomber” by the FBI, died at the federal prison medical center in Butner, North Carolina, Kristie Breshears, a spokeswoman for the federal correctional service, told Britain’s BBC. He was found in his cell early Saturday morning and pronounced dead around 8am. The cause of death was not immediately known.
Bomb series between 1978 and 1995
He had been held at Supermax Prison in Florence, Colorado, since May 1998 before being transferred to the prison’s medical facility. At the time, he was sentenced to four life terms plus 30 years in prison for a terror campaign that rocked American universities across the country. He admitted to carrying out 16 bombings between 1978 and 1995, permanently disfiguring some of his victims.
