“In the woods and on the moors, that’s where I look for my friends” – one hunter probably didn’t feel so lucky when he came across Hungarian traffickers and Syrian asylum seekers while stalking in Gurten.
Manfred S. (56) is a hunter in Gurten, on Saturday he checked his territory. Turning onto a dirt road, he suddenly saw two pickup trucks parked in the middle of the woods. To the left and right of it were several people and there was a lot of rubbish on the floor.
Jumped into the cars in a panic
“I got out and asked what they were doing here. Most of them jumped into the cars in panic and drove off,” says S. in the interview with “Krone”. About three men could no longer make it and were left behind. “I took a picture of a car and alerted the police.” Shortly after, the Hungarian vehicle got stuck on a dirt road in Geinberg, 13 refugees – all Syrians – were arrested and taken to the police detention center in Wels. The smuggler managed to escape on foot.
Waited together for the police
One of the men left in belts did not flee, but waited with S. for the police. “He told me they were taken from Serbia to Hungary and then to Austria. The final destination was apparently Germany.’ The man behaved peacefully towards him all the time: “We talked.”
