Six fire brigade units from the region with a total of 85 men had to deploy to the city of Schladming on Thursday morning for a major operation. A fire broke out in the roof structure of the traditional Zirngast company, but the fire could not yet be extinguished.
At 9:20 a.m. the siren alarm went off in the Styrian tourist community of Schladming. Witnesses saw smoke development in the roof of Hotel Zirngast in the northeast of the city and alerted the emergency services.
The fire probably started from the roof structure. Particularly tragic for those affected: the traditional accommodation has been renovated and modernized in recent months and they wanted to reopen before the start of winter.
According to initial information, no one was injured and damage is expected to run into millions.
