A boy (14) was injured at a school in Salzburg on Monday when New Year’s fireworks exploded in his hand. He had previously found the fireworks while collecting garbage with his classmates.
The students were out and about in Schwarzach (Pongau) on the Salzach dike. Back at the high school in Schwarzach, the students opened the fireworks – it exploded in the hand of the boy (14) and burned. He sustained injuries to his hand. The Red Cross took him to the Cardinal Schwarzenberg Clinic.
According to the broadcast made by the police in the afternoon, the student removed the black powder from the fireworks and set it on fire. A flash of fire ensued, injuring the student.
One hour mission
The Schwarzach volunteer fire brigade was notified of a small fire. She evacuated the building and extinguished the embers in the classroom. After an hour the troops were able to leave again. The young person will be prosecuted under the Pyrotechnics Act.
