The famous protection zone around Vienna’s Keplerplatz did not seem to prevent one or more strangers from setting fire to a company car right in front of a police station.
The image that a reader-reporter from “Krone” shot Thursday morning in Favoriten speaks for itself – the amount of damage that the taxpayer will have to pay is probably huge. It was Thursday evening, around 2:30 a.m., when the police inspector on duty in Keplergasse in Keplergasse suddenly saw flames licking right outside their window. But instead of stepping in to save an operation, officials had to watch helplessly as one of their utility vehicles almost completely burned down.
Second car also damaged
According to police spokesman Markus Dittrich, previously unknown persons had doused the vehicle near the rear tire with accelerant or petrol and set it on fire. The professional fire brigade in Vienna was able to quickly extinguish the fire thanks to the rapid attack unit with six men. A thermal imaging camera was used to check whether all embers had been smothered. The bumper of a passenger car parked directly behind the commercial vehicle was also damaged. The perpetrator or perpetrators managed to escape undetected. Now the fire brigade of the Viennese criminal investigation department is investigating.
