Leopard 2 shot down – Russian receives million rubles for destroyed tank

Date:

The Russian Ministry of Defense has released a video honoring a Russian soldier for destroying a Leopard 2 tank. He received the handsome amount of one million rubles (about 10,800 euros) for this.

The recordings (original video see above) show a typical Moscow hospital without any special comfort. There were high-ranking visitors: Aleksandr Karelin, a member of the Federation Council and former State Duma deputy, came by. He visited Andrei Krawzow, who allegedly destroyed the German tank.

Krawzow said he knocked out the combat vehicle with a grenade launcher. “I shot and smoke rose up,” he said. Only in the hospital did he discover that he had destroyed a “German leopard,” continued Krawzow, who is now missing an arm. “I didn’t do this for a million,” he continued. “I’m a patriot, I love my country,” the ex-combatant said.

At the beginning of the year, several Western countries, including the US, Poland, Germany and Britain, agreed to supply tanks to Ukraine. The Russian side then promised their soldiers special payments for the destruction of Western weapons.

At that time, about three million rubles (about 32,500 euros) were promised for each “hijacked” Leopard 2 tank. There should be ten million rubles ($108,802) for every US M1 Abrams main battle tank shot down. According to the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, Kravtsov is the first soldier to receive a bounty for destroying a Leopard 2 tank.
