Paradise for foodies – Best restaurant in the world in Lima, Vienna in the top 20

Date:

The Central in the Peruvian capital Lima has been named the best restaurant in the world for 2023 by international gastronomic critics. The jury of the ‘World’s 50 Best Restaurants’ awarded the title at a gala event in the Spanish-Mediterranean metropolis of Valencia on Tuesday evening. The bosses of the Central, Virgilio Martínez and Pía León, thanked their entire team for the work that has now been crowned with success.

The Central has long been known as a gastronomic paradise – and Peruvian cuisine between the Pacific and the Andes, with its diverse influences and traditions, as well as its willingness to experiment, is considered some of the best in Latin America.

Three other top rated restaurants in Lima
Besides the Central, three other restaurants in Lima also made the top 50: the Maido (6), the Kjolle (28) and the Mayta (47). But as with almost all top restaurants, the prices of the delicacies are barely affordable for inflation-ridden commoners.

Vienna Steirereck in 18th place
Since 2002, more than 1000 international gastronomy experts choose the best restaurants in the world every year. Contrary to what the name suggests, there are not just 50, but 100 restaurants on the list of the British “Restaurant Magazine”.

The second place in the ranking this time went to Disfrutar in Barcelona, which had already reached 18th place in 2018. The Steirereck in Vienna reached 18th place.
