On Wednesday afternoon there was a serious collision between five cars in Wien-Meidling. Observant witnesses saw the spectacular accident and immediately alerted the police.
According to the police, the accident was caused by a 20-year-old in Grünbergstrasse who suddenly changed lanes because his brakes completely failed. Moreover, the 20-year-old does not even have a valid driver’s license.
Collision while changing lanes
While changing lanes, he collided with the vehicle of a 30-year-old and a 59-year-old. He would then have tried to swerve to the right because of the faulty brakes. The collision pushed the 59-year-old’s vehicle into the adjacent lane. This resulted in another collision between two cars.
Completely destroyed vehicles
The 20-year-old and his 18-year-old passenger were taken to hospital with minor injuries. Fortunately, the other drivers and their passengers were not injured. Some of the vehicles involved, five in total, were completely destroyed by the accident. A large contingent of emergency services was on the scene. The 20-year-old’s vehicle was seized by order of the public prosecutor’s office. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
