The first symptoms on March 25 pointed to flu. Two days later, Monika Neuherz was diagnosed with pneumonia, her condition worsened and she had to be resuscitated twice. Multiple organ failure was caused by severe septic shock.
Aggressive germ caught
The doctors determined that the 47-year-old had caught a very aggressive bacteria that had entered the bloodstream and started decomposing her lungs within hours. Weeks of mortal danger followed and the mother of two daughters (6 and 8) had to be ventilated for four weeks in artificial deep sleep.

The extremities suffered from severe sepsis. Both lower legs and all fingers had to be amputated successively to keep her alive.
