Spectacular scenes took place in Wiener Neustadt on Monday evening: around 3 a.m., previously unknown perpetrators blew up the window of a jewelry store. Upon their escape, the thieves engaged in a wild chase with the police. At the highway entrance, however, their trail was lost. An immediately started alarm search on the ground and from the air has so far yielded nothing.
Getaway car burnt out
A little later, the fire brigade was alerted to a vehicle fire in the parking lot at the sports center in Weigelsdorf. A car went up in flames. It soon turned out to be the thieves’ getaway car. It is believed that the perpetrators set fire to the car as a precaution to cover their tracks.
The crime scene for the jewelry store in Wiener Neustadt was cordoned off over a large area and the harmless service was also on site. The investigations were taken over by the criminal investigation department of Lower Austria.
