S’Arenal is a seaside resort on the Balearic island of Mallorca, characterized by mass tourism. Recently, however, the holiday resort has developed into a true Valhalla for young German hooligans. They would come to the island without booking a hotel room. Then they got drunk for 24 to 48 hours and then rushed home on a low-cost airline.
“They are all young, 18 to 20 years old, and they just come to get drunk or do drugs,” said Alain Carbonell, vice president of the residents’ association of S’Arenal. The situation was therefore “unsustainable”.
Some tourists wouldn’t even bother booking a hotel.
Drunken German troublemakers have taken over the role of the drinking British and increasingly outnumber them. English holidaymakers are so far the worst offenders in the city of Magaluf.
German police officers are now seconded to support the National Police. Twelve of them would be patrolling the streets of Palma in the coming months, according to the Daily Mail.
