The four-day fair in Neustift an der Lafnitz (Burgenland) was abruptly interrupted on Sunday night by a rescue operation. A young woman fell into the river. The result was a dramatic and complex rescue operation that lasted more than an hour and a half.
Was there too much alcohol involved? A young woman probably visited the St. Ilgener Kirtag in Neustift an der Lafnitz on Saturday. The river is not far from the festival. The woman fell over the dike and ended up in the water.
Water level of the Lafnitz higher than normal
Under normal circumstances, the water would be about 80 centimeters deep. Due to the heavy rainfall of the past few days, the water depth is currently around 1.60 meters.
Heavy rescue and large-scale lockdown
In the early hours of the morning, fire brigade and ambulance had to be called out to rescue the Kirtag visitor from the Lafnitz. The salvage was extremely difficult. A large area had to be cordoned off during the operation. Traffic was busier than usual due to the four-day event.
According to the emergency services, the 20 to 25-year-old received emergency medical care after the rescue and was taken to hospital.
