The owners of the farm in Andrichsfurt (Upper Austria) were already asleep when a fire broke out in an outbuilding on Monday night. Seven fire brigades and 122 men battled the flames.
Shortly after midnight, the 53-year-old farmer and his son (21) were awakened by screaming cattle. It soon became clear what was bothering the animals: an outbuilding that served as a machine hall was on fire. The awakened farmers called the fire brigade to Andrichsfurt in the Ried im Innkreis district.
Dad saved tractor
The 21-year-old tried to prevent the flames from spreading with two hand fire extinguishers. Meanwhile, his father managed to save a tractor from the burning building.
Cause of fire unclear
The seven fire brigades were eventually able to extinguish the entire fire and prevent the flames from spreading to the main building. No one was seriously injured as a result. The 53-year-old farmer nevertheless went to the hospital as a precaution to clarify any smoke inhalation. Animals were not injured.
However, the material damage is considerable. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
