A woman who has been missing for more than a week has been found alive in the United States after being trapped in mud in a nature reserve for several days. Massachusetts state police said Tuesday the 31-year-old was rescued from a bog in Borderland State Park after other hikers heard her calling for help.
According to the information, the woman was last seen on June 25 outside the park, which is about 30 miles south of Boston.
To save her, rescuers from the nearby town of Easton had to drive through the mud in 4x4s and then on foot to get to her.
Rescuers waded 50 feet (15 m) through the swamp and thick undergrowth to reach the trapped woman, Easton Police Chief Keith Boone said. The rescuers “jumped blindly into the water and followed the woman’s cries for help”.
According to the authorities involved in the rescue operation, they assume that the 31-year-old has been stuck in the mud for at least three days.
She was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but police say her life is not in danger.
