In the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the federal prosecutor’s office has discovered a suspected Islamic terror cell. Seven suspects have been arrested. The men are said to have planned attacks and supported the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS).
Those arrested are men from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. They have a radical Islamic attitude, traveled together to Germany last year and formed a terrorist organization there. The aim was “to carry out high-profile attacks in the sense of IS in Germany,” the prosecutor said on Thursday.

Another man and his wife were arrested by the Dutch authorities. The group was in contact with members of the regional IS-affiliated Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISPK). She is charged with targeting possible targets of attacks in Germany and exploring possible crime scenes. In addition, the suspect had tried to obtain weapons. However, there is no concrete plan yet, according to the ministry.
The suspects will be brought before a judge in Karlsruhe on Thursday and Friday. German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) spoke of a “significant blow to Islamist terrorism”.
