In the scandal surrounding allegations of abuse against a prominent BBC presenter, her own mother’s allegations were dismissed by the alleged victim. The allegations, which were made public through the Sun newspaper, are untrue, the BBC quoted Monday night as referring to a letter from a lawyer.
“To be clear, nothing improper or unlawful has taken place between our client and the BBC personality,” it said. The accusations in the tabloid “Sun” are “nonsense”.
The media had quoted the mother of the alleged victim as accusing the unnamed presenter of paying her child a total of £35,000 over three years for sexually explicit photos and videos. The alleged victim would have already rejected the allegations on Friday evening at the “Sun”. The “inappropriate” article was published anyway.
Moderator suspended, police investigating
According to “Sun”, the young man was 17 years old when the alleged crimes began and allegedly used the money to buy drugs. After public outcry, the BBC announced on Sunday that it had suspended the moderator. After meeting with BBC officials on Monday, London police said they were reviewing the information to see if there was any evidence of a possible crime.
