A twin-engine airliner skidded off the runway and crashed into a fence at Mogadishu Airport in the East African country of Somalia. The 30 passengers and four crew members survived the spectacular crash (see video above) relatively unscathed.
Only two people were injured in the accident at Aden Adde International Airport on Tuesday, Somalia’s Transport and Aviation Minister Fardowsa Osman Egal reported on Wednesday.
Cockpit has broken off
Unable to brake in time for the end of the runway, the aircraft banked, skidded off the runway and finally came to rest against a fence in rough terrain with dirt and bushes. The cockpit was torn off on impact.
According to the minister – contrary to what was initially reported by the Somali media – there were no politicians on board the crashed plane.
