A three-story building collapsed in the town of Torre del Greco near Naples on Sunday. Three people were rescued alive from the rubble and taken to hospital with fractures. Two other people were injured, rescuers said.
A local resident said the collapsed building showed visible signs of stability problems on the facade.
Meloni called the fire department
Two elderly women were trapped in their homes by the rubble of the collapsed building, which had blocked some alleys in the city center. Firefighters tried to ensure that the women who were not injured in the collapse were able to leave their homes.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called the fire brigade to get information about the rescue operation.
