According to their boss Yevgeny Prigozhin, the Wagner mercenaries will remain in Belarus for a while. In a video published on his official Telegram channel on Wednesday, Prigozhin apparently welcomes members of his private army to Belarus. The camps in Belarus are also getting bigger.
A man’s voice is heard, sounding like Prigozhin, telling the mercenaries to behave. He continues that their training will make the Belarusian army the second best in the world.
He described what was happening at the front in Ukraine as a “disgrace” in which the Wagner units were not allowed to participate. The authenticity of the recording has not yet been verified. Wagner’s mercenaries were an important mainstay for the Russian army, especially on the Eastern Front.
Mercenaries stay in Belarus “for a while”.
According to Prigozchin, Wagner would “stay here in Belarus for a while” before the group “gathered all their strength and left for Africa”. New satellite images show the Wagner camp expanding some 110 kilometers south of Minsk.
After their brief mutiny on June 23 and 24, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said he had negotiated with Russian President Vladimir Putin for Prigozhin and his mercenaries to go into exile in Belarus.
